With the extra bit of added protein, this makes for a great post work out snack when mixed with some low fat yogurt and fruit. This granola is also very low in fat! The only fat is the good kind that comes from the almonds. Great additions to this recipe would also be seeds, dried fruit (such as cranberries or apples) or other nuts. Enjoy! In my opinion, this is by far the best verison of 'Asian Cabbage Slaw'. It took me a while to develop this recipe but it was worth the work. There are faster versions, but they don't compare to my recipe. If you like cabbage slaw, I think you'll love this. If you're able to grow your own cabbage, then this is also a pantry meal because you should have all of the other ingredients in your pantry. ASIAN CABBAGE SLAW WITH CRUNCH topping MEAT: 1 pound of boneless, skinless chicken meat 1/4 cup soy sauce 2 teaspoons sesame oil 2 teaspoons minced garlic 1 teaspoon onion powder 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Marinate for at least 30 minutes. Discard marinade and cook meat in a hot skillet until done. Cool. SLAW: 1 small head cabbage, finely shredded or one package premade slaw 1 bunch green onion, sliced 1 can mandarin oranges, drained topping: 3 packages ramen noodles, crushed (discard the seasoning packet) 1/2 cup sesame seeds 1 1/2 cup sliced almonds 2 teaspoons cooking oil Heat oil in skillet until hot. Add crushed noodles and stir continually until slightly golden. Add sesame seeds and cook until the seeds begin to turn golden brown. Lower heat and add sliced almonds. In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Italian Bread with Cheese topping. The topping has a blend of two cheeses and some spices. This is a quick and easy way to perk up a loaf of Italian bread!
Ingredients:
½ cup mayonnaise
¼ cup Parmesan cheese, finely grated
1 clove garlic, finely minced
¼ cup Cheddar cheese, finely shredded
1 ½ teaspoons milk
¼ teaspoon paprika
16-oz. loaf Italian bread (I used Italian bread from the deli section of my grocery store.)
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine ½ cup mayonnaise, ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese, and 1 clove minced garlic. Set aside. In a small saucepan, combine ¼ cup shredded Cheddar cheese, 1 ½ teaspoons milk, and ¼ teaspoon paprika. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until cheese melts. Remove from heat and stir in mayonnaise mixture. Slice a 16-oz. loaf of Italian bread in half lengthwise and place bread halves, cut side up, in a shallow baking pan. Broil about 6 inches from the broiler unit in oven about 1 or 2 minutes, until lightly toasted. Spread toasted bread evenly with cheese mixture. Broil about 6 inches from broiler unit in oven about 1 or 2 minutes, until cheese mixture is melted and is beginning to brown. Remove from oven and place bread halves on large serving platter. Ingredients: 4 large baking potatoes Cooking oil spray sea salt, to taste 1 pound lean ground beef ½ cup chopped onion ¾ cup water 1 ½-oz. package taco seasoning mix 1 cup taco sauce 1 cup shredder pepper jack cheese Wash baking potatoes and pat dry with paper toweling. Place each potato on a square of aluminum foil that is large enough to wrap the potato thoroughly. Spray each potato with cooking oil spray, and then sprinkle with sea salt (or regular salt). Place each potato diagonally on a foil square and bring up the edges of the foil to wrap potato tightly. Place wrapped potatoes in a baking pan and bake in a 400-degree oven for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Check for doneness, by using a potholder and squeezing the potato. If it is softened, then it is ready to remove from the oven and prepare for topping. Meanwhile, prepare the topping. In a large, deep skillet, brown 1 pound lean ground beef with ½ cup chopped onion, stirring constantly, until beef is brown and crumbly and onion is soft and clear. Stir in ¾ cup water, and a 1 ½-oz. package of taco seasoning mix. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer, uncovered 5 minutes, or until liquid is absorbed, stirring occasionally. The green beans are quickly sautéed in a small amount of oil and then served with toasted almond slices on top. This is a gorgeous and healthy dish to serve with a wide array of entrees. Ingredients: fresh whole green beans, as desired (I used about 4 cups, and I chose green beans that were small and tender, not the tougher pole-type beans.) 2 tablespoons olive oil or peanut oil, divided 2-oz. sliced almonds Prepare about 4 cups of green beans by washing them and removing ends and strings. Set aside. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a deep skillet over medium heat, and add 2-oz. sliced almonds. Reduce the heat to low, and toast the almonds until golden, stirring constantly. Remove the toasted almonds to a small plate with paper toweling to drain. Remove any leftover oil and crumbs from the skillet, and wipe it clean with paper toweling. Now, heat 1 additional tablespoon oil in the skillet, and add the prepared green beans. Saute the green beans over medium heat for just a few minutes, stirring continually, until the green beans are to your taste. They should be crisp-tender, and they should have a bright green color. Remove them fairly quickly, if you like them crisp; let them cook a little longer if you like them more tender. Stir them continuously throughout the cooking process. I use a blended oil-canola oil blended with vegetable oil.) 2 cups sugar 4 eggs 1 cup buttermilk (I made my buttermilk from a buttermilk mix.) 3 cups self-rising flour 2 teaspoons lemon extract 1 teaspoon almond extract Cream a stick butter and 1/2 cup additional shortening with 2 cups sugar. Beat well. Add 4 eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add 3 cups self-rising flour to the mixture, alternately with 1 cup of buttermilk, until flour and buttermilk are used up. Mix well after each addition. Stir in 2 teaspoons lemon extract and 1 teaspoon almond extract. *** For a "Lucky" cake, at this point, add 1 whole almond to some spot in the center of the cake.
