Just a note, this is a really big store - most grocery stores here are not quite as big as this but many metropolitan areas have one or two of these megastores where you can also find a restaurant, a phone store, electronics, home hardware and a drugstore beside the grocery. Something I didn't address: the prices. Food prices in Switzerland are among the highest in all of Europe, for example much higher than in neighbouring countries like Germany or France. However, the quality of the food is in some ways also higher. Much of the meat comes from Swiss farms, and although the cost of having livestock in an expensive country like Switzerland is exorbitant, the quality of the meat is also really amazing. Organic food is very popular in Switzerland with usually a very large assortment available at all the big chain grocers. All organic food must be officially certified by an independent commission, and the criteria for becoming an organic farmer are very stringent. Swiss people in general care a lot about their food, where it comes from, the quality of the meat and produce, and the conditions the animals live in. However, all this comes at a pretty hefty price. Sometimes I wish food was cheaper and that Switzerland allowed more foreign imports to bring down prices, but on the other hand I think it is great that ...

The chocolate coated "honeycomb" (for the uninitiated - it is not real honeycomb), the brand I recommend is violet crumble. Once your yummy treat has set -cut it up into triangles or clusters. For gift-giving - wrap in clear celephane, tie with a ribbon and atttach a small card. It's always nice to include the ingredients on the card, especially if you are making the rocky road for a school fete or market stall. Everyone LOVES rocky road! The boyfriend and I went grocery shopping for the week. Just sharing our purchases from Trader Joe's and Sam's Club with you guys. I do all the cooking and make 90% of our meals, sometimes Dan has a lunch meeting and he'll eat out at work. So breakfast, my lunch, snacks (aka small meals) and dinner are made using what you see. I have to get very creative sometimes when we're bored and experiment with herbs and no salt seasoning (like Mrs. Dash and Spike).

Now its off to one of Hawaii's favorite restaurants to see what they do with the Okinawan Noodle on their menu. Off The Wall started with the idea of being different from anything else out there. Any business that dares to be different has to be prepared to confuse the heck out of people, me for one, and others, according to executive chef Grant Murata. There's confusion by association because Murata's known in Okinawan circles as a musician, in addition to his past affiliation with the Okinawan restaurant Hanagasa Inn. There are many old-timers who depend on him for traditional local Okinawan fare, while a younger generation expects a lighter hand, free of oil and extracting the bitterness from bittermelon. He says he's feeling the pressure from both factions while also trying to please that other faction of newbies who don't know a single thing about the restaurant and can't even guess based on its name. My first impression was that the restaurant is a work in progress, trying to find its way on the unfamiliar turf of the Pearl Kai shopping Center in Leeward Oahu, in an uncertain economy at that. It's at first glance a daytime and early evening family restaurant with a local/Okinawan bent, easing into izakaya territory later in the evening. As per its name, Murata and his partner Kyle Matsumoto have creative culinary ambitions, so the menu continues to be tweaked to accommodate the community.
