A poached egg is an egg that has been cooked by poaching. No oil or fat is used in its preparation. poached eggs are used in Eggs Benedict and Eggs Florentine. The egg(s) are cracked into a pan of water that has just boiled (but is not boiling) and simmered until the egg white has mostly congealed, but the yolk remains soft. Most chefs seem to agree that the 'perfect' poached egg has a runny yolk, with a hardening crust and no raw white remaining. The essential factor is to use totally fresh eggs; although this may be difficult unless chickens are kept. Broken into boiling water, the white will stay clinging around the yolk, and you will end up with a perfect ball of cooked white and runny yolk. All eggs tend to 'spread', whether frying or poaching, the older they are. Even a week will do this, and it is very difficult to find shop-bought eggs that are fresh. Most commercial eggs, even organic, will be 2-3 weeks old. Hence the need, as outlined below, for vorticēs, cling-film, and the like. A certain amount of practice is necessary to prevent the white of the egg dispersing into the water. One way to help prevent this effect is to add a small amount of vinegar to the water. It also helps to stir the water vigorously to create a vortex just before dropping the cracked egg into the water, or to break the egg into a cup and lower the lip below the water's surface before releasing. As you can see, with minimum hassle you can use this ingenious device to cook up a poached egg depending on your toast and egg requirements: a soft, medium or hard cooked centre can be created, and toast can be cooked from lightly toasted to heavily cremated. As well as poached eggs you can also cook boiled eggs (up to four at a time!), beans or a variety of meats such as bacon and sausage. It's a bit of a tech-y geeks toy, but it's bloody good fun (if toast n eggs are your thing) and ridiculously simple to use. Just fill up the silver water holder on the right hand side with the required amount of water depending upon how you want your eggs/beans/meat cooked, load up your toast, flick the switch and hey presto your breakfast will cook whilst you shower/make a cup of coffee/skim through the morning paper. There's no danger of it boiling over or overheating as the device cleverly knows when the water has all evaporated and this also prevents it from boiling dry. Generally the egg maker takes approximately three minutes in order to cook a soft boiled egg, and I have found that the perfect timing is to set the toast on 3-4 and cook the egg between soft and medium in order to have them both finished at near enough the same time. Enough to make anyone's mouth water! 2 Eggs 2 Cups Flour 1 Cup milk 1 tsp Baking powder 1/2 Cup blueberries 6 squares white chocolate 1 tsp oil 1. Mix the eggs, milk and flour together until smooth.
