See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com Nancy & Strasbourg, france "Nancy To go to Nancy, realized a long-held dream of Betty-Anne - to send a postcard from the city of Nancy, france, to her sister Nancy. She has now sent the postcard, and been advised by Nancy that she received it. In the three days we stayed in this city, we explored the old part of town, based around Place Stanislas. We normally take a city tour bus, just to get acquainted with the town region, but in this case, it was a Petite Train (the usual car with a steam train engine as a body, and three carriages in tow). They are a good slow way to meander around the old town areas and get a feel of the monuments and city layout. We couldn't help comparing Nancy with Lille, which we had just left. Although the buildings were a little younger than Lille, mostly 17th & 18th Century, (even though some buildings and monuments dated back to 14th Century) including a lot from the Art Nuevo era, to us, it appeared that there wasn't as much money in this region as in Lille in the past. We noted a lack of outside decoration and enhancement of the residential buildings. Many didn't have balconies, or window decorator railings to enhance the elegance of the buildings. Yet once they reached the Art Nuevo era, the elegance then tended to be introduced into their buildings. They then stove for "grand" styles ...

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow video of a travel blog to Paris, france by TravelPod blogger Travelingmom. See this TripWow and more at tripwow.tripadvisor.com National festival of Antiques and Ham "Halfway between Paris and Versailles, along the Seine, is the Ile de Chatou, host of a bi-annual national festival known as the Foire Nationale de la brocante et la Jambon--a national festival of flea market and antiques dealers, and of ham. HAM. The festival dates back to the Middle Ages, when local hams played a much larger role in the festival, but regional hams and foods are still exhibited--giving me a reason to convince Rob to come along, bringing a book. The festival has been held in the region continuously but for a brief hiatus during the Revolution and Terror from 1789 until 1804. Hams from the region may have played the primary role in the festivities in times gone by--but today's 800 brocante and antiques dealers far outnumber the stations displaying their local pork (I can't believe I'm even talking about the stuff--but off home turf, Rob does not follow kashruth, and is only too happy to indulge.) We went with my friend and her son. The drive from Paris took us through La Defense--which felt a lot different than visiting the Defense Arch and walking along the esplanade (see former blog). I was surprised by how many very modern skyscrapers were concentrated there--a huge conglomeration of the world's financial and business industries in one spot. Post 9/11, I would doubt ...

www.TravelsWithSheila.com france is a big meat-eating country. If you are a vegetarian, make arrangements in advance on a pre-arranged tour like this or you can live nicely on the abundant cheeses. There was always a basket of delicious bread. A starter, entree, cheese plate and dessert are included. They don't force you to buy bottled water anymore and even the French are opting for carafes of "l'eau ordinaire" (ordinary water). Not every meal will be great. Some courses not to your taste. But you certainly won't starve...

This is a sample of the mobile phone version of "Flavors of france" series - Turbo (fish) Au Champagne. Just one of hundreds of recipes available for mobile phone. Ingredients: Turbot (Fish) - You could also use salmon, sole or halibut Ground Pepper Chanterelle Mushrooms Onions Leeks Salt Fish Stock Butter Cream Bottle of Champagne - Brutt or a dry white wine Directions: Chop the mushrooms Chop the Onions Add a little butter to a hot pan to melt When it is fully melted, add the chopped onions and then chopped mushrooms Add the Champagne and a little more once the froth has died down. Then add the fish stock Then add the fresh cream Season the mixture with a little salt and freshly ground pepper. Agitate the pan to mix the ingredients, which are then poured into a sieve. The solid ingredients are pushed into the sieve to make sure all of the sauce is extracted. Now prepare the fish. A medium size Turbot is ideal. Two leeks are sliced lengthways and then chopped finely. A Turbot Filet is placed on a flat surface and the skin is removed with a sharp knife and then trimmed for presentation. Then it is cut into three pieces of equal size. The chopped leeks are added to a saucepan of boiling water The Filets of Turbot are placed in a frying pan to cook in a little oil and seasoned with a little fresh pepper. The cooked leaks are removed from the saucepan and put in a bowl of iced water to cool. The filets are turned to be browned on the other side. More pepper is added and then ...
