Chickens are omnivores, they love eating meat -- mostly in the form of bugs and worms. The alfalfa, clover and grasses on our pasture provide our hens and meat birds with a nutrient dense natural forage. As a result, their meat has a pronounced butter flavor and the egg yolks are a deep orange color when the grass is green. These chickens are part of our laying hen flock, most of them are dual purpose hens, significantly larger than a conventional hens -- they should make for incredible crock-pot chicken in a couple of years. Even the fanciest local organic factory farm counter parts will produce flavorless eggs for less than a year while living in cramped conditions without sufficient access to the bugs or alfalfa ours are so excited to search out. I have gotten into the unsavory habit of not cleaning my rice cooker immediately after use; and since I rarely use the rice cooker nowadays, there is much time for the leftover contents inside to ferment, and to transform: into maggots. I do not appreciate my electrical cooking appliance being used as a petri dish so I've learned my lesson in cleanliness.

PrepperA was sitting at the computer with me, as I was making this video. When I typed the title she approvingly said, "That's the perfect name for it." We really like this casserole. DIVINE SQUASH CASSEROLE 1/2 cup onion, diced 2 tablespoons bell pepper, diced 1 tablespoon butter 5 cups yellow squash, cooked soft and mashed 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 2 heaping tablespoons mayonnaise 1 1/4 cups cheddar cheese, grated and divided 1 egg 8 butter crackers (Ritz, saltines,whatever you have) paprika - about 1/2 teaspoon Cook onion and bell pepper in butter until soft. (Can be done in a small bowl in the microwave.) In a large bowl, combine onion, bell pepper, and squash. Stir in salt, pepper, mayonnaise and cheese. Whisk egg in with a fork. Crush 5 cracker into the mix and stir. Pour into a greased 8" x 8" casserole dish. Crumble 3 reaming crackers on to. Sprinkle with remaining cheese and a few shakes of paprika. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. If you start with precooked squash that is cold, bake for 30 minutes. Serve hot. Enjoy!
